Science Installations at The Leonardo
Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Blog entry by Danielle Follett Chard, The Leonardo's marketing specialist. One of the most defining things about The Leonardo is the celebration of science and art working in unison. While these things are often viewed as exclusive of each other, we recognize that science and art lend themselves to each other beautifully. This beautiful collision of science and art working in cohesion is why The Leonardo has elected to use science installations as its primary exhibit model. These science installations will often explain a scientific idea through art.

Using art to explain science can be as simple as a detailed illustration in a textbook or can be as complicated as an enormous molded plastic sculpture that represents algae. But either way, the use of something more tangible can help explain even the most abstract scientific principles. Remember our post on 8 Light ASCII Display Terminal Terminal by artist Taylor Levy? Check out this video, which will be part of that exhibit, for a preview of how this science installation is using art to explain the language of computers.
So what do you think about using art and science to explain each other? Are you getting more excited as we get closer and closer to opening? Let us know in the comments and be sure to stay tuned for more sneak peeks like this one!
