Field Trips at The Leonardo

Blog entry by Danielle Follett Chard, The Leonardo's marketing specialist.Over the course of this past school year, The Leo on Wheels has been beyond busy visiting schools all around the state to bring the perfect blend of science, technology, and art to Utah students. We've visited 12,000+ students this past year and they've loved our team and the fun exhibits they bring along. At least, that's the impression we got from the piles of thank you notes we received today!

At the same time, our team has been hard at work prepping for our opening and a whole new kind of Leo experience for students: field trips! We're excited that we've been able to begin scheduling school-group field trip opportunities for the 2011-2012 school year. We can't wait for students to come and explore the museum and immerse themselves in our stimulating science exhibits, awe-inspiring art installations, and hands-on workshops.
Our field trips will help students expand their thinking by asking the big questions and opening their minds to limitless possibilities. Students will learn how to develop innovation-thinking skills, find creative solutions and gain new approaches to problem solving by giving them a chance to explore what impacts their lives and their world. And, most of all, these trips will be fun!
We tested our planned format for these field trips earlier this year with our Holotype field trip project. We covered this event with a blog post, so check it out to see the ooey-gooey algae creations the kids made and to see how they responded to our larger-than-life algae art installation. (Hint: it was good times all around!)
